Ling Xiaoyu's "I'm not late. I have seven seconds left" Face
*SPOILER ALERT*
+ S H O W / H I D E +
I'm not a fan of the Tekken storyline - or almost any fighting game storyline for that matter - because it's usually just an excuse so that they can smash each other's face. But I'm a fan of the Tekken character roster... and yeah, Tekken's art and animation are awesome.
Xiaoyu, being in it, is already enough reason for me to watch this movie... but making her the main character? And then Alisa's with her too? I was like MUST-WATCH-MOVIEEE! So I watched it... and then I was like - damn, feels like I'm watching a girl flick. haha. Xiaoyu's cheesiness, I can take. Alisa's cheesiness is too much for me. I'm cringing every time she speaks. The english audio didn't help either. I don't know why but small-voiced anime type girls always sounds horrible in english. ---need---to find---japanese---version!---
But that's still fine. They're both cute - Cute girls with extreme kung-fu moves are badass. And, yeah - I noticed a lot of Xiaoyu and Alisa's game moves incorporated on their one-on-one battle, which is pretty cool! And I love the Mishima's mano-a-mano fight. Three-way battles creates interesting matches.
Jin showing his resourcefulness - using his grandfather as a shield against his father's punch.
My only criticism on the animation is that sometimes when they are moving very quick, it seems like the picture is on fast-forward. And why do they think an opponent who can smash boulders will end up dying when they fall on water?
Heihachi falling on a body of water
Jin: "I am victorious."
The Japanese and the Koreans are doing well in the gender equality movement. In the movies outside Japan and Korea, we show naked girls taking a shower. But in Japan and Korea, they show naked guys taking a shower! And Japan even move a bit further with Tekken - girls are the one peeping!
Xiaoyu's Eyeballs about to pop-out while enjoying a very suspecting, butt-naked Shin Kamiya - a guy - taking a shower. Alisa in the background wanting a piece of the show. (okay, I made the "enjoying" and "wanting a piece of the show" part but the rest are true.)
And I never realize how huge Xiaoyu's role is in Tekken! Jin makes it appear as if Xiaoyu will somehow end this supposed "Mishima Curse."
Alisa and Xiaoyu talking about a very serious matter: How to achieve world peace. And Xiaoyu has the answer - Turn the whole world into a global theme park.
The story, now that I think about it, is very bland. My apologies to the creators but I think they could have done better. The epilogue is somehow indicative of a sequel. My answer to that - Yes, please! I hope they include Lili on the next movie :)
In the end, I just can't help but give my hats off to the creators. Hollywood's Cartoon-like 3D animation is great but only Japan makes an effort in creating Realistic 3D animation (e.g. SquareEnix's FFVII Advent Children) So, I congratulate Namco and Digital Frontier for a job well done!
Xiaoyu: "For a job well done!"
Panda: "Ourgh!"
Panda: "Ourgh!"
Lee Chaolan: "Excellent!"
